Support Notification:

Micro Focus is announcing the End of Committed Support of ALM Synchronizer (all versions) as of the dates set forth below, providing Micro Focus Connect Core as a replacement, being the strategic integration and synchronization technology provided by Micro Focus :

  • Nov 30, 2022 : Release of the last ALM Synchronizer version.
  • May 31, 2023 : Committed Support ends for ALM Synchronizer (all versions).

About ALM Synchronizer

ALM Synchronizer enables you to synchronize data between ALM and the endpoints listed below. ALM Synchronizer works with all editions of ALM, including Quality Center Enterprise edition.

Make sure you download and install the ALM Synchronizer server before you download and install the ALM Synchronizer client.

Supported Endpoints

Requirement and Defect synchronization is available for:

  • ALM (11.00 and higher)
  • AtlassianJIRA
  • IBM Rational ClearQuest (Defects)
  • IBM Rational RequisitePro (Requirements)
  • IBM Rational Team Concert (RTC)
  • Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) - includes both TFS on-premise and TFS in the cloud (certified Visual Studio Team Services)

ALM Synchronizer Adapter Software Development Kit

You can develop additional third-party adapters for requirement or defect synchronization using the ALM Synchronizer Adapter Software Development Kit.

To request a copy of the ALM Synchronizer Adapter SDK, an agreement needs to be signed. Send an email to qcsyncsdk@microfocus.com specifying:

  • Your company name.
  • Third party solution for which you plan to develop the adapter.
  • Indicate if you plan to develop the adapter for internal use only or to distribute as an Micro Focus Partner.

Keep server URL unchanged in different scenarios: Add a new parameter SERVER_BASE_URL. If you add it in the database parameters table and set it to a fixed server URL, then the server URL will stay the same in any scenario. For example, wherever you click the View Log link from your email, the link is always the same as is set in SERVER_BASE_URL.

  • Assign default values to required fields: In a pair of field mapping, if the field in one endpoint is required, and the mapped field in the other endpoint is optional. When Synchronizer creates new entities, and if the optional field is empty, a default value is assigned to the required field. You can either set default values for required fields or just use the system pre-defined values.
  • Comments sync between ALM and JIRA is enhanced: Support comments sync using the ALM REST endpoint. Formatting of comments is retained during synchronization (in either direction).
  • Support requirement target cycle sync: Support mapping with the ALM Target Cycle field for requirement synchronization.
  • Send notifications to multiple email addresses: You can instruct Synchronizer to send notifications to multiple email addresses that are separated by commas or semicolons.

 What's New

  • Use an API token to authenticate an Atlassian Cloud version of JIRA. To set the JIRA connection properties for JIRA endpoints, you generate an API token from your Atlassian account, then copy and paste it to the Password field. For details on how to create an API token, see https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloud/api-tokens-938839638.html.
  • ALM Synchronizer supports API Key authentication for API integrations. API key authentication provides a secure authentication mechanism for external applications accessing ALM's API. 

      The ALM site administrator generates and manages the list of API keys for ALM. Each API key includes a Client ID and an API Key Secret for applications to use when authenticating. Each API key is associated with an ALM user. Therefore, when an application uses an API key to access ALM, the application is limited by its user's permissions.You can use an API key to access ALM only if it is currently listed as active in the list of API keys.

What's New

  • Setting connection timeout for JIRA endpoints. When synchronizing requirements or defects, you can set Synchronizer to wait a length of time before a connection to a JIRA endpoint (Endpoint 2) times out. By default, Synchronizer waits 60 seconds.
  • Support for JIRA hierarchy. Synchronizer now supports a two-level hierarchy in JIRA.
  • Ignore Changes to Parent Requirements. When synchronizing requirements, you can set Synchronizer to ignore changes made in parent requirements. The changes will be ignored in both master and non-master endpoints. This option is available for all endpoint types.
  • Supported environments:
    • Microsoft Windows 10 64 bit (server and client)
    • Requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 or later

You would need to adjust your custom adapter to this version. Alternatively (recommended) -  Synchronizer version 12.60 should be preferred.
