Description

OBM provides the ability to relate events in a cause/symptom relationship either manually, via rules or via machine learning-based automatic event correlation. By default, when a cause event is closed, its corresponding symptom events are automatically closed. However, if all the symptoms are closed, the cause event is not automatically closed.

The ability to close the cause event automatically may be useful when the cause event has been created through stream-based event correlation rules or via automated event correlation.

This solution uses time-based event automation to periodically check the cause events of interest and, if their symptoms are all closed, it will close the cause event.

Release notes

What’s changed in this version:

  • Simplified and improved the Groovy script:
    • All event web service requests are executed in the same way now. Thus, the option for “isUseREST=false” and the PowerShell script have been removed.
    • Additional error handling in case the OBM user, that queries the symptom events of the cause, fails to authenticate or otherwise fails to return the symptom list for other reasons.

Doc version 1.20.1 change: Set "Limit number of executions per event to" in the TBEA rule.

Release notes

What’s changed in this version:

  • TBEA rules are shipped in a deactivated state, since you need to edit the script with your OBM access details before they can run successfully.
  • TBEA rules are configured to run at a different interval to reflect the out-of-the-box automatic event correlation (AEC) use case. Now, the "Close Cause if Symptoms Closed" rule runs after 10 seconds and the "Close Cause if Symptoms Closed: Reset Symptom Check" rule runs after 5 minutes. For non-AEC use cases, you can change the time intervals to suit your needs.
  • Event filters have changed to reflect the out-of-the-box AEC use case. This includes changing the names of the event filters and the filter conditions to match AEC. For non-AEC use cases, you can change the filters or create new ones.

Note: The Groovy script in the content pack and the separate PowerShell script are unchanged. There is no need to upgrade to this version unless you are using it to automatically close AEC correlated events.
